I've been studying yoga and Ayurveda for many years, but always want to see what's new。 I love that Ali Cramer modernized Ayurveda for a current lifestyle。 It's still full of Ayurveda's traditional aspects, but she offers 3 Quick-Start Plans for each of the individual doshas, offering those new to Ayurveda a chance to experience its healthful benefits for themselves。 I often pull out my copy just to re-read areas I want to revisit in my life。 Full of colorful photos and wonderful information, it I've been studying yoga and Ayurveda for many years, but always want to see what's new。 I love that Ali Cramer modernized Ayurveda for a current lifestyle。 It's still full of Ayurveda's traditional aspects, but she offers 3 Quick-Start Plans for each of the individual doshas, offering those new to Ayurveda a chance to experience its healthful benefits for themselves。 I often pull out my copy just to re-read areas I want to revisit in my life。 Full of colorful photos and wonderful information, it's a great book to pick up to start learning more about this ancient healing practice。 。。。more

I’ve been keeping my eye out for a fundamental Ayurveda book to recommend to students and clients and this one is perfect。 Most of my students have no idea what Ayurveda is- this is a crash course。 I love the seven day kick start offered for each dosha。 This is clear and succinct, no Sanskrit knowledge required。 Overall a great jumping off point to learn the basics。 Side note- the book is beautiful。

Ali makes Ayurveda accessible for the busy New Yorker and conveys her tips per dosha in a relatable way。 I have yet to try her recipes, but they sound amazing!

Extremely helpful I am not into the I am the universe jargon but the lifestyle is something I can wrap my arms around。 Like Chinese medicine Ayurveda has been around a very long time。

I was really impressed by Ali Cramer's Modern Ayurveda。 It is not the first book I have read on the subject of ayurveda and Ali's take on it is refreshing and honest。 She admits that we aren't all going to be perfect at following all the recommendations of ayurveda all the time。 She acknowledges the fact that changing our diets is sometimes not a straighforward thing, that our finances and our social situations may hinder that。 I love her advice to take every meal with gratitude for what it prov I was really impressed by Ali Cramer's Modern Ayurveda。 It is not the first book I have read on the subject of ayurveda and Ali's take on it is refreshing and honest。 She admits that we aren't all going to be perfect at following all the recommendations of ayurveda all the time。 She acknowledges the fact that changing our diets is sometimes not a straighforward thing, that our finances and our social situations may hinder that。 I love her advice to take every meal with gratitude for what it provides。 At first I thought her 7 day kickstart program was a bit too demanding。 Doesn't she realize that people have families and obligations, I thought。 But then she admitted that everyone was not going to do all the things she suggested。 She encouraged readers to try the week over at times and try to follow it more closely。 So actually the kickstart week is not a single week that is supposed to set you on the right path for life but an invitation to try different practices。 There is a list of helpful links in the back as well。 I definitely have to check some of them out。 I recieved an ebook galley of Modern Ayurveda from Net Galley but I definitely plan on adding a print copy to my library。 。。。more

This is a wonderful overview and start to understanding Ayurveda for those of us that are new to the concepts。 I enjoyed reading the different techniques and ways to incorporate this into my life。 Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity。 。My opinion is my own。 I admit I did not know much about Ayurveda but having heard it constantly in the media wanted to give this book a try to introduce myself to the concepts and practices。 As a vegan and one who leads a healthy lifest This is a wonderful overview and start to understanding Ayurveda for those of us that are new to the concepts。 I enjoyed reading the different techniques and ways to incorporate this into my life。 Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity。 。My opinion is my own。 I admit I did not know much about Ayurveda but having heard it constantly in the media wanted to give this book a try to introduce myself to the concepts and practices。 As a vegan and one who leads a healthy lifestyle I am open to incorporating Ayurveda into my self care routine。This is the "definitive" guide to Modern Ayurveda for all of us beginners。 The author so well defines the practices here of techniques, recipes, and remedies you can easily learn to incorporate them into your health routine。 The first part describes what it truly is, then the author goes into a wonderful plan called "kickstart" for us to try the methodologies。 Throughout the book are the pictures, recipes, meal plans, activities and helpful remedies。I enjoyed reading this and will use it as a self care guide 。 I highly recommend this book for all who are looking to increase their good health and have healthy practices in their lives。 5 star for a excellent guide 。 。。。more

This book was a great general overview of Ayurveda principles and concepts。 The material is highly accessible to the ordinary person。。。。no confusing terms。 I would definitely recommend this book to those just starting their research into this topic。 The only thing that I found a life disappointing was there was not enough recipes。

Prior to this book I knew zilch about ayurveda。 Literally, not a thing。 When this book fell into my lap I was pleased that I might actually learn something that could maybe impact my life。 Now I will admit I am not an instant convert and I did not immediately overhaul my life to abide by all the principals found in this book。 I did however start applying a few things into my life and will be more open to using techniques, recipes, and remedies in the future。 The first part of the book breaks dow Prior to this book I knew zilch about ayurveda。 Literally, not a thing。 When this book fell into my lap I was pleased that I might actually learn something that could maybe impact my life。 Now I will admit I am not an instant convert and I did not immediately overhaul my life to abide by all the principals found in this book。 I did however start applying a few things into my life and will be more open to using techniques, recipes, and remedies in the future。 The first part of the book breaks down what in the hell ayurveda is (I finally know!) and discusses the impacts it can have on your life as well as some best practices。 The second part of the book contains four kickstart plans that readers can use if they really want to go all in and try it out the methods and see the quick turn around it can have on their lifestyles。 Filled with pictures, tops, recipes, meal plans, activities, remedies, and more; this is an essential guide for newbies! 。。。more

A very thorough and helpful introduction to Ayurveda。 I tried the Kickstart, and have continued with some of the tips I implemented during the Kickstart week (~3 weeks ago), and OMG, I've had so much more energy than I ever used to have! The morning "ritual" I believe is the primary reason for this。 I have some soap that uses a recommended aroma, which I use to wash my face every morning。 I walk in the early morning now (rather than later in the day like I used to), and I make and drink the tonic for my type every morning (which uses ginger and pepper, so really gives a morning kick!)The only reason I give only four stars is I wish she had given advice for those who score equally in two types。 She has advice for those rare folks that are equal in all *three* types (Kapha, Pitta, and Vata), and one of my sons surprisingly (or maybe not for those who know him ;) did score equal in all three。 But for those who are equal in only two, she doesn't give any advice。 I'm equal in Kapha and Vata, so I have no idea which to follow, or how to follow both。 However, I've followed the advice for my body type (which is Kapha) rather than my mental type (Vata), and so far this has had amazing results。 So overall, I'm really pleased! 。。。more
